Professional Experience
Mr. Stuart is a partner in the firm. Previously, he was a partner with Drenner Stuart Wolff Metcalfe von Kreisler, L.L.P. since its formation in May 2000 and prior to that, he served as a partner for 8 years with Drenner & Stuart, L.L.P. He had previously spent 14 years with Jenkens & Gilchrist, P.C. - 7 years in the Dallas office of Jenkens & Gilchrist, P.C. and 7 years in its Austin office.
Mr. Stuart has worked exclusively in the tax and transactional areas throughout his legal career.
Details of Practice
General. Mr. Stuart has represented clients in all aspects of their business, from the initial start-up phase and evaluation of the appropriate organizational structure, to the various complexities that follow a successful business to its ultimate sale or transfer to descendants. These transactions include acquisitions, mergers and private offerings of equity/debt instruments. He serves clients across a broad spectrum of industries including, but not limited to, banking, computer software, distribution, entertainment, food service, franchising, health care, investment services, real estate, and telecommunications.
Federal Tax. Mr. Stuart's federal tax practice includes representation of taxpayers with respect to partnership and corporate tax planning, including the acquisition and sale of businesses, tax planning for real estate transactions, including the structuring of partnerships and like-kind exchanges and administrative proceedings and litigation involving federal income tax controversies.
State Tax. Mr. Stuart's state tax practice includes all aspects of Texas state tax matters, with emphasis on the Texas franchise and sales tax. This representation includes tax planning to reduce or avoid Texas state taxes and representation of taxpayers in both administrative proceedings and litigation with respect to contested tax liabilities.
